LOOMSCAPE transforms the industrial site at 50 Kent Street into a vibrant landscape for special events and everyday recreation. The existing hardscape of chain link, concrete, asphalt, and aluminum trusses is transformed to create inviting gathering spaces with life and vitality. As visitors approach the site, the existing chain link fence surrounding the site is transformed into a complex woven surface with simple plastic slats. To create the SUPERgola, this woven pattern in translated into mesh panels that extend over the audience, creating an iconographic landmark for the OSA Summer Concerts. Upon entering the site, two artificial hills identify zones for recreation, dining, and concert-viewing. Their slopes invite visitors to relax, sunbathe, people watch, and dine; while also creating amphitheaters to view the concert and projection. Visitors taking a break from the concert or during non-concert hours, can relax on the large slope overlooking the outdoor ping pong and foosball tables, or engage in a game of volleyball, badminton, or soccer.
